I'm almost finished choosing the trim. We're putting fluted casings around all the windows and doors in the three bedrooms. The windows will have bull's eye rosettes in the corners; the doors will have rosettes on top and plinths at the floor.
The dimensions for the casings with 3 3/4" rosettes are correct. You want the rosettes larger than the casing. Rosettes usually overhang the casing by about 3/16" to 1/4" on each side. Be sure to place the rosette right in the corner of the top and vertical jamb. You don't leave any reveal or else the reveal created by the vertical casing won't be correct.
The baseboard trim sounds like it will be beautiful....nice and big. You could go one size bigger on the window and door trim since the baseboard is big. BUT, these are in bedrooms, so I dont think its a big deal. If it was the living room/dining room or family room, I would have suggested you bump up the trim and crown. That size crown is nice, but you can add below it which enhance the look for a less expenive means....I dont think I would go thru the extra effort unless you have tall ceilings and its the master bedroom.{{!gwi}}
I'm replacing all my 1970's door and window trim with fluted trim and bull's eye rosettes in the corners. The problem I'm having is that the 30" door to the garage is in a hallway that is only 35" wide. The trim will have to be ripped almost in half, and the rosette, of course, would, too. Is that going to look dumb? Is there another way?

Measure the distance between the top of your plinth block or the floorboard and the mark made on the wall with a tape measure. Cut the left and right door trim to your measurement with a miter saw or a handsaw and a miter box.
Place the wood trim on top of the plinth blocks or on the floorboard and line the edge of the trim up with the edge of the door jamb. Fasten the trim to the wall using 2-inch trim nails and a hammer. Complete this task on both sides of the door jamb.
